The DOUBLE EYE NEEDLE
These needles are a wonderful tool for embroidery and topstitching. They have 2 eyes one right above where the regular eye would be. Two different threads can be used for a "tweed" or shading effect. The lion's mane below used a black and then a gold 40 wt rayon thread.

These needles work in machines that take the 130H705 system needles. The 130H705 are the universal, embroidery, quilting, stretch, etc needles on our site. The double eye needle has less of a scarf than the regular needles. If your machine uses an ELX or other special needle, these will probably not work in your machine. When feeding the thread, two vertical thread stands were used so that the thread was equally balanced in feed tension. This really made a difference. The tension had to be played with a bit to make sure the stitch was balanced on the bottom. One design on my brother pe-100 was a bit "loopy" on the bottom. I put some iron on stabilizer (fusi-knit) over it to "seal" it. I did not have the same problems with other designs. I was able to use my automatic threader by just making an adjustment for the upper eye.
The double eye is a great tool for shading and texturing in embroidery work and in topstitching. They do NOT do a zig zag in most machines. The hook clearance on most machine's will not catch the upper eye's thread. It will on a straight stitch (which is what embroidery machines use - the arm moves the fabric) but when you go to a zig zag or wider decorative stitch, the hook goes further out from side to side rather than up and down.
As we get more pictures, we will be loading them on the page. Also some digitizers are working on designs JUST FOR the double eye needle. We will have links for them as soon as they send them! What great fun this is too work with!!

We have started a discussion group on yahoogroups.com to talk about this needle.
